This Project intends to descover an answer to the question: "How does proximity to large root based trees affect the phenology of the White Sage plant (Salvia Apiana). Plants are monitored in a remote location at the Claremont Botanic Gardens, a large natural reserve in southern California. The sample groups are monitored over the course of several months, (from about November to May), and data is recorded fairly often, although weekly monitoring is not always possible as this experiment is run in a public High School setting.

IceWatch USA, a program of Nature Abounds, brings citizen science volunteers the opportunity to help scientists study how our climate is changing! In as little as 10 minutes, volunteers can report information that will help to analyze how our climate will change in different regions of the United States, and how our ecosystems are reacting to the change. IceWatch USA is modeled after and a proud partner of Ice Watch Canada.
Canada's climate is changing in response to increased emissions of greenhouse gases, among other factors. Accurately recording and analyzing ice on and ice off events (also known as ice phenology) offers one practical way to learn how climate change is affecting our environment.

Journey North engages students in a global study of wildlife migration and seasonal change. K-12 students share their own field observations with classmates across North America.
Each year, more than 200 volunteers donate over 7,000 hours of their time, skills, and enthusiasm to reach Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary's goals in environmental education, scientific research, and the protection of the vulnerable wetland ecosystem. This is the equivalent of a $100,000 donation. These volunteers have a variety of backgrounds---teachers, librarians, construction workers, chemists, college and high school students, and yes, some are even professional wetland ecologists! What they have in common is an interest in nature, pleasure in being outdoors, and a desire to explore the ecology of natural habitats such as wetlands and forests. At the Sanctuary, they collect water samples . . . clear trails . . . weigh turtles . . . guide visitors on nature walks . . . draw maps . . . lead canoe trips . . . make posters . . . seine for fish . . . host the Visitor Center on weekends . . . and so much more!

The Waterville School District developed a 5-year plan to inventory and map the biodiversity of the Waterville Plateau. Each grade level inventories and monitors a different taxonomic group which include: spiders, butterflies, birds, insects, reptiles, plants, mammals, and water quality in town, from homes, and sites withing the Waterville Plateau, such as Badger Mountain, Douglas Creek, and Pine Canyon. These data are used to develop baseline inventory for the Waterville Plateau and are submitted to the NatureMapping Program for county and statewide analyses.
