The WildLab uses mobile technology to engage learners in citizen science activities that promote STEM learning and encourage local environmental stewardship. In 2009-2010, over 600 learners participated in the WildLab's bird program, collecting thousands of GPS-tagged bird sightings in the NYC metropolitan area with iPhones. At the end of the highly successful program, learners sent their sightings to the Cornell Lab's eBird Web site. The app and associated curricula are available for free on the WildLab's Web site. The WildLab is partnering with scientists to create other protocol-based apps for citizen science research.
